Mr. Zarocostas has used his research skills to maximum advantage to bring to life the investigation by famed NYPD Lt. Detective Giuseppe "Joe" Petrosino into the brutal murder and mutilation of Benedetto Maddonia, an investigation which is told in the form of a novel but based on actual contemporary newspaper articles brought to life in a way that makes the protagonist a li. Great Book About Old New York and a Cop who tried to make a difference Salvatore G. Gangemi I just finished reading this book, and immediately felt compelled to write this review. If you enjoy reading historical fiction, particularly about New York, then you will love this story. Based on true events, it takes place in New York City at around the time that organized crime starts to take root in America. Detective Joe Petrosino wants to wipe out corruption in the streets, while dealing with corruption and prejudice within the police department. It's an interesting story that also teaches you something about old New York. I highly recommend this book.
