DESCRIPTION:
"Indispensible" according to Cincinnatus. If you want to learn about the runes or you're learning or have learned and you haven't read this book, you're probably missing something. This text has all the poems and lots of linguistic guides that will help you read other books where knowledge is expected. I've conversed with the author, privately, and I find him polite, accessible, and knowledgeable. Checked it out from the library many times, glad to finally own it. The most concise, accessible, and affordable introductory text available on the subject. I would could consider it THE basic authority on elementary runology and absolutely vital to my linguistics studies. If you want something more useful and in depth than this, be prepared to pay upwards of $100.. Brilliant piece of scholarly work. D. Barnes I highly recommend this book for those who want to study the runes from a non-New Age perspective. This is some of the best scholarship I have ever seen on the topic.
This little volume provides a useful introduction and guide to the ancient runes of the Germanic peoples. It discusses the origins and meaning of all the known runes, and includes text and translations of rune poems and riddles from England, Norway amd Iceland, as well as two short essays on `The Norfolk TIW runes' and `The Brandon runes'.
