Stephen Mann said In Depth Overview of The GWR. This book is not a Haynes manual, but a history of the Great Western Railway which ran over a wedge of land that encompassed the south of England, Wales and parts of the north west in the period after grouping (when the railways of mainland Britain were coalesced into four "groups" - LMS, LNER, SR and GWR) but before nationalisation (when they all became British Rail). The book is organized into chapters that cover specific topics, or facets, of the railway over its history during that period. The chapters can also be broken . A good series. A good summary and history, appropriate for the uninitiated with one exception: not enough maps. I'm glad I bought the series.
