I thought I'd be disappointed since most of the "compilation" yaoi titles I pick up end up having disappointing title stories and underdeveloped filler shorts. However, I was not disappointed with this title, which was both surprising and refreshing.I didn't have a problem with the translation like the previous reviewer, though that might be because I have come to expect lower standards in yaoi localizations (and have read a lot of mediocre scanlations in my time). The story is basically about the relationship that develops between them after they spend a drunken night together and then decide to explore where their passion for each other will take them. As in Toko Kawai's other manga, the artwork is beautiful. Even though this is a short story, the characters are surprisingly well developed and have a lot of depth, especially Tomo, who we are following.In my opinion this is the best among the four stories in the volume - but the other three are. Compared to the yaoi manga that I normally prefer, this is not very explicit at all (except for maybe one scene), but, boy, is it ever sexy! It is erotic in a way that many non-explict manga aspire to, but all too rarely achieve. The appeal of Kawai-san's manga, and the reason she is able to show "the erotic" so well, is the way she conveys the emotions of her characters so honestly and convincingly. From Publishers Weekly Passion begets obsession in Bond(z), a compilation of yaoi love stories that explore the hardships two men face when they fall in love. Her lean, distinctive art style is appealing. In the opening story, Tomo and Keita are reunited and begin to rekindle the brief but passionate love affair that they started one sweltering summer two years earlier. Tomo finds his feelings for Keita bordering on obsession, and the two men struggle to deal with both their blossoming love and the secret they keep from their girlfriends. Themes of obsession intermingle with the question of whether two men should be in a romantic relationship. Similar themes are explored in subsequent stories, as the characters must overcome obstacles to pursue an intimate relationship with another man.
