DESCRIPTION:
"Awesome" according to Elizabeth C. Lowman. Dr. Doenecke was one of my professors. I was very lucky to sit in his lectures as an undergrad, because now professors are using his works in graduate school.I have read this book and re-read several times. It is assigned, yet again, for another graduate class. The book analyzes pertinent documents and history from the area and then provides the primary documents for the reader. Unlike many authors that write about FDR's programs, Doenecke is critical of FDR's programs that were not sucessful, but also points out the good points about the New Deal. The book is fair and balanced, easy t. Very good. Very good overview, as well as insightful praticulars. Should be one of the main texts for anyone intrested in learning about this area.
Doenecke's account focuses on political history, beginning with the advent of the Great Depression in 1929 and ending with the congre. Suitable as a supplementary text for college history courses, this volume contains a narrative of the New Deal era along with 30 supporting documents from the period
