DESCRIPTION:
With anger, humor, and powerful language, The Gathering offers rare insight into the world of Canada's Métis, creating a bridge between Native and non-Native worlds.. In The Gathering, Gregory Scofield applies the sacred teachings of the Medicine Wheel to the harsh reality of life on the skids. Using poetry as a healing metaphor, he embarks on a personal journey that parallels the historic and contemporary displacement of the Métis people
Gregory defines his feelings of being torn between two races A Customer He is neither accepted by his native brothers as he is not dark enough and he is not accepted by the rest of society as being white enough. He therefore is caught between the two worlds and never really finds acceptance from either. His poetry exspresses his pain and anger and love of all of his situations. I enjoyed and empathized with him very much. If you know anything about Native Canadian life you will be touched by his poetry.
